Last week I had a conversation with a friend about how parenting blogs make her feel. Her response was they make her feel inadequate. Surely, she was in the minority. If that’s how parenting blogs make people feel, why would they follow them? I conducted a poll on my Instagram stories.
The last ten nights of Ramadan are around the corner, and I’ve been to the mosque….once. I know that prayers are between you and Allah, so praying at the mosque or at home shouldn’t matter. But it sort of does.
As many of you may have seen through my previous posts, this year I am using an advent calendar with my daughter. There are 30 good deeds for her to complete in the calendar. Each morning we read it, during the day we complete the task and then at night she gets a present. But am I losing the true spirit of Ramadan by over gifting?
When I decided to be a stay at home mom, I had a vision of playing together and making irreplaceable memories. However, it wasn’t soon after that I realized that the memories I was giving her were far from ideal. I was too tired and preoccupied to enjoy our time together. It felt like a lose-lose situation for both us. Something had to change.

My First Quran Activity Book was born out of frustration. There are lots of amazing Muslim books out there but I was looking for something more interactive for my daughter. When I took my daughter to early childhood programs in the library they stressed the importance of hands on learning. After a lot of research to figure out what “hands on learning” means, I realized its basically a play-based learning model. If play-based learning is so crucial to teach young kids, why don’t we use it to teach Islam? I wanted to come up with a way not only for her to learn the stories in the Quran but be able to play with them too.
